Till now, we stand at last where the bright gleam of our bright star is cast.  Be ye therefore wise as serpents and humble as doves.  It takes only a strong man to blend these strongly marked opposites.  The idealists aren’t usually realistic, and the realists are not usually idealistic.  But life at its best is a creative synthesis of opposites in fruitful harmony.

Jesus recognized the need for blending opposites, knowing that His disciples will face a difficult and hostile world, so He told them ‘behold I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves…’

I wish you tough mind and a tender heart.

Consistency is contrary to nature, contrary to life. The only completely consistent people are dead

In this world there are two tragedies:  One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it. The last is much worse.

Medical school is one experience that need not be overlooked.  It teaches wisdom, pride, meekness and the best of all, fear; fear of failure, fear of ‘tetanisation’ during ward rounds, fear of strikes and fear of so many other things that make up the medical school.  I hope these fears can be reverted to fear of God, and fear of exploiting the society on graduating from here.  Colleagues, let’s get out of here.  Cheers.

Nothing happens by mistake.  Yes.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for God is with me.- Ps 23.

Finally, we’ve reached the end of the dark tunnel.  Always remember the golden rule, ‘Do unto others what you would have them do to you’, and life will be sweet!
